How to write a social science research paper on contemporary issues
When you are writing a social science research paper on contemporary issues you should follow the steps below:
- Research
- Outline
- Rough Draft
- Revisions
When you are writing a research paper on a contemporary issue your job is to present the best argument for your thesis. What is your thesis? It is the question your paper will answer or the problem your paper will attempt to solve. You need to present both sides of the argument and present strong evidence as to why your side is best. You want to ensure you have a literary background that gives the reader an understanding of what research has been done on this issue before and why your research is important. Make sure to discuss what benefit your research has for the field.
Gather your notes and begin to sort them into an outline. Place the evidence beneath corresponding arguments and include your thesis and introduction. After you have your thesis statement and your outline be sure to edit it. Double check that each point is clear and that the flow of your outline presents a convincing case. Cover all of the main points in your thesis statement.
Once this is done you can move on to the rough draft. Write the first draft as freely as you can. Do not limit or hinder your creativity here. Follow the outline closely. You took notes that you felt were relevant and important so use them. Do not pad the paper you write with too many quotes. This will only make it seem as though you don’t know what you are talking about. When you are done with your rough draft you want to check it for accuracy. Make sure your facts are complete. If you think that one section is too long or too short then rework it until you have made the strongest argument and support of said argument as possible.
Revise your rough draft into a final draft. Look over your final draft and make sure the paragraphs are coherent and united. Reword any sentences that do not use the best grammar or sentence structure. All of your sentences should be effective and none should be fluff. Run spell check as a rudimentary step. Then read your paper out loud to yourself to check for flow and errors that a standard spell check might miss.
